This is my short and sweet attempt at Mastermind's Hall Of Fame nom since proboards deleted my awesome one three months ago.
Mastermind was truly the product one expects to get when you cross two Hall Of Fame parents. However, a case can be made that Mastermind outshone even his parents. On the track, he was a brilliant freak of nature. He broke records and dazzled crowds as a young juvenile. He won his first Breeders' Cup race in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint.
At three, he took some time to get going, but when he did, he stirred the soul. He won a leg of the Turf Sprinter Crown and two legs of the Dirt Sprinter Crown. He beat older horses twice at three, including future Hall of Famer Lynara's Kingdom and superb sprinter Forbidden To Fly in the King's Bishop--his first win in the King's Bishop. He later went on to win the Breeders' Cup Sprint.
At four, Mastermind got even better. He was scary good and the only horses that could hold a candle to him were Forbidden To Fly and Innocent Passion when he took a jaunt over the turf. He took on all comers and won the Dubai World Sprint, the Unicorn Horn Dirt Mile, the Summer Dawn Treader Cup, his second King's Bishop and the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.
Mastermind was seemingly unmatched on the racetrack and he set the tone for greatness for future sprinters and milers alike. A truly great horse has to transcend the sport and Mastermind truly brought down the house each and every time he hit the track.
